Sour Dough Starter

Today we made sour dough starter. The children measured 1/2 cup of flour, 1/2 cup warm water, and 1/2 teaspoon of yeast to make the dough. We talked about how half a cup is a fraction and connected this to a division strategy called halving. The children measured, poured, and mixed. They talked about how the mixture looked and smelled then wrote a paragraph about making the sour dough. For the final piece the children are putting their paragraph into a story on Story Kit using the iPods. Check back to read their stories!
